Don't hide, but rather embrace your flaws. "Lost Before I Could See" by Victoria Molta is a deeply introspective and emotionally charged journey through grief, identity, and resilience. The author's prose is raw and yet thoughtful, chronicling the aftermath of holding in a secret, and dealing with the resulting struggle with mental health. Through a mix of memory, reflection, and vivid storytelling, the book explores what it means to confront one’s struggles and overcome them. It’s an honest, haunting, and ultimately healing read.

Resilience I could not put this down. Victoria Molta's journey is a remarkable one. We see walk us through her family troubles, her mental health taking toll, but most importantly, we see Victoria walking us through what it means to never give up. It's a reminder that while we may be going through rough times, there is always a light at the end of it or the grass will be greener on the other side. I hope her story can also serve as an example of what mental illness looks like for an everyday person. And while we are fortunate to have famous people talk about their struggles, it's not the same. I do believe Victoria's story will help break the stigma of mental health. And I do recommend this as I hope it will bring conversations amongst one another on mental health and building a community to lean on.

A Courageous Journey Toward Understanding and Healing Victoria Molta’s book offers a deeply personal and honest look at the challenges of living with mental illness. Lost Before I Could See: Navigating My Way Through Mental Illness blends vulnerability with resilience as Molta shares her struggles, setbacks, and moments of hope in a way that feels both raw and inspiring. Her narrative goes beyond just the symptoms to explore the emotional and social hurdles that come with mental health issues, making her story relatable to anyone touched by similar experiences. Rather than painting a perfect picture, the book embraces the messy reality of recovery, offering readers empathy and encouragement along the way. It’s a powerful testament to the strength it takes to keep moving forward, even when the path is uncertain.

A deeply moving read Victoria Molta's Lost Before I Could See: Navigating My Way Through Mental Illness was a deeply moving memoir. Victoria took her readers into her personal journey through mental illness, and she wrote it with such honesty and vulnerability which made me admire her more. What most especially awed me was her courage and strength to talk about anxiety and depression which a lot of people are afraid to discuss. Her story reminded me that if you are going through something in life, you have to tell yourself that it's okay to be okay, and you're not alone. If you feel down and if you feel like you are losing the courage to face challenges each day, I encourage you to read this book as it truly does speak to you. It's one of the books that I was able to deeply connect and relate.

A life that serves as an example This book is incredible. There are no words to describe Victoria Molta, the author of Lost Before I Could See. Her life is a clear example of perseverance, resilience, love, determination, and more; no number of adjectives would be enough.Victoria, a woman who suffered from a severe mental illness for more than 40 years, shares with us in an astonishing and honest way all the paths she has had to walk throughout her life, making it clear that nothing is impossible, that as long as there is willpower, any adversity can be overcome—and she is living proof of that. These are 350 pages filled with joy, sadness, pain, triumph, defeat, among many other emotions, but above all, with sincerity, making it impossible to stop reading until the very end.Victoria’s story makes the reader reflect that pain is not an excuse. On the contrary, out of adversity and illness, great things can emerge—as long as there is the will to overcome.

A Brave, Unfiltered Journey Through the Shadows — and Toward the Light Lost Before I Could See is not just a memoir — it’s a quiet act of courage. Victoria Molta invites readers into the rawest parts of her life with remarkable honesty, weaving a story that is both deeply personal and universally human. From her early days in Southern California to finding solace later in life by the Long Island Sound, Victoria’s journey is anything but linear. It’s filled with painful chapters — mental illness, family dysfunction, addiction, breakdowns, and loss. But what defines this memoir isn’t just the suffering; it’s her relentless resilience. Time and again, when life throws her into darkness, she claws her way toward light — and never stops hoping. Her prose is simple and chatty, like a friend explaining something to you over coffee. She doesn't sentimentalize about her battle, yet she doesn't let it consume her either. What we find instead is how it's possible to experience severe mental illness for over forty years and still be able to find meaning, love, and happiness. Her marriage with Bill, gotten into in the most unlikely of circumstances, is a sweet anchor in her story — a real and sweet one founded on common sense and sympathy. What is most remarkable is the way Victoria turns pain into compassion. She doesn't merely endure — she flourishes. She comes to feel a bond with others that society tends to ignore. And she shows us that peace, even the quiet kind that may at first seem dull, can be the deepest and most hard-won prize. This book will stay with me for a long time. If you or someone you love has experienced mental illness, or if you simply appreciate stories of raw human perseverance, Lost Before I Could See is a must-read. It’s not just about surviving — it’s about reclaiming your life, one small victory at a time.
